KITTERY, Maine — The Police Department will have a new lieutenant come October, filling the void left after Russell French left to become chief of the Rangeley Police Department.
Interim Town Manager Carol Granfield at the Town Council meeting on Monday named Westbrook police detective Sgt. John Desjardins to the post. He will start on Oct. 3.
The position was left unfilled for months because the town was also in the process of hiring a new police chief and the decision was made to wait until the new chief was hired, as the lieutenant in Kittery is second in command under the chief.
