KITTERY, Maine — Nearly 40 years in law enforcement came to an end for Police Chief Ted Short on Friday at a retirement party at the Kittery Community Center.

Since 2004 in Eliot, and since 2013 in Kittery, Short has led the departments after serving as a troop commander for the Maine State Police and a military police officer in the U.S. Army.

There were a lot of smiles and laughs at the KCC as colleagues from Eliot and Kittery joined the chief to celebrate his impending retirement. Officially, Short’s contract runs until the end of June, but after both towns successfully hired their new chiefs and with enough unused vacation time, Short’s commitment to the towns is basically complete.
