School Committee plans for insurance increase
KITTERY, Maine — The School Committee voted to adjust the 2016-2017 operating budget they approved last month after the health insurance costs were higher than anticipated.
The committee voted not to add any money to the budget but to make up the cost by taking it from elsewhere in the budget.
The health insurance costs for the next school year are not finalized until after the School Committee needs to approve the budget. As a place holder, the district estimated a five percent increase in health insurance cost for a total of $179,000. While last year, the health insurance costs came $70,000 under the projected cost, this year it was $79,000 over the budgeted amount.
