KITTERY, Maine — Seacoast residents are in for a tasty cultural treat of literature and jazz next month when the Rice Pudding Poetry Series kicks off at Kittery’s Rice Public Library.

Former Maine Poet Laureate Betsy Sholl will be the star attraction at the Dec. 3 event, but she’ll also share the microphone with several local readers, who will read selected poems inspired by or about jazz.

In addition, Kent Allyn, best known as a founding member of Ben Baldwin and the Big Note, will perform jazz interludes together with David Graf, guitarist with the jazz trio, Seasmoke.

The series is modeled after the statewide Poetry Express conducted by current Maine Poet Laureate Wes McNair, who visited Rice Library for a standing-room only “whistle stop” back in March.
