KITTERY, Maine — An auto repair shop in town is donating a portion of every brake service in October to help fight the battle against breast cancer.

Autoworks in Kittery joined 140 other auto repair shops across the country in the Brakes for Breasts fundraiser. Autoworks is the first shop in Maine to participate, according to a news release from Tannye Wold, director of marketing and customer relations for Autoworks.

For every brake repair in October, Autoworks will donate 10 percent of the cost to the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund. The purpose of the vaccine fund is to research a vaccine that will lead to a cure for breast cancer and not just help with treatment, the news release said.

The fundraiser is in its fifth year, having been started by two Ohio-based auto repair shops.

Free brake pads are also provided as part of the fundraiser.
