The challenge promotes a healthy lifestyle in a community atmosphere. Whether a runner or a walker, beginner or seasoned athlete, this challenge offers something for everyone. The Kittery races are the Kittery Fire Association 5K, Sunday, May 18; the Kittery Block Party 5@5 (5K), June 21; and the Kittery PTA Seaside 4-miler, Sept. 21. Runner’s Alley will be the overall sponsor of the Kittery Challenge.
Each race gives 100 percent of its proceeds back to the Kittery community and is supported by local businesses through cash, prizes and local food donations.
This year’s Kittery Fire Association 5K proceeds will go toward the purchase of a new thermal imaging camera for the Kittery Fire Department. The camera can see through smoke and darkness to find victims inside and outside.
The Block Party 5K donates its money to different local organizations each year and encourages groups to apply to receive their proceeds. The Kittery Seaside 4-miler uses its proceeds for PTA activities including field trips, health education programs and classroom tools and supplies.
