Council Workshop tonight on Flood plan maps

noahsKITTERY, Maine — A Town Council workshop will be held at 6:15 p.m. today, April 7, in Town Hall, on the preliminary federal floodplain maps.

A consultant hired by the town determined the Federal Emergency Management Agency maps are flawed in the area from Seavey Island to Gerrish Island. The town is holding the workshop to determine citizen interest in having the town hire the same consultant to appeal the maps.

All property owners in the vicinity of water and wetlands are encouraged to view the information above to determine the impact the proposed maps incur.  The maps may affect the development potential of your property as well as whether you will need to obtain flood insurance.  Congress recently passed legislation ( the Biggert Waters Act of 2012) to remove long-standing federal subsidies for owners requiring insurance, which is expected to result in premium increases.
