The 100-year-old span with a rail line to begin by spring 2015
The 100-year-old bridge connecting the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Seavey Island with the mainland at Gate 1 is in significant disrepair and needs to be replaced.
The project, estimated to cost between $15 million and $20 million, is expected to start between late this year and the spring of 2015 and will likely take more than two years to complete.
During construction, at least one lane of the bridge is anticipated to remain open, said Gary Hildreth, shipyard public affairs officer.
note: Kittery Town manager Nancy Colbert Puff has asked Town of Kittery planning department staff to review the documentation and report back to her with any concerns.
