Kittery to partner with York in water upgrade

YORK — The Kittery Water District is planning to begin construction later this year on a $6 million, multi-year rehabilitation of its water treatment plant, and in preparation has joined forces with the York Water District to create efficiencies and redundancies that will ensure Kittery residents get water throughout construction.

The project was the impetus for a study completed this year by Tate and Howard Consulting Engineers that investigated ways the two districts and even neighboring districts can cooperate by creating improved system interconnections. The $30,000 study was paid for with a $15,000 state grant, and matching funds from each district.
