KITTERY, Maine – The Town Council discussed new town charter amendments and approved language-centric amendments in a workshop on Monday evening.
The first amendment cleans up language, grammar and other non-substantive changes that currently exist in the charter and were accepted by the five present councilors, following the 10-year review of the charter by Chairman Gary Beers, Vice Chairman Charles Denault and Town Manager Kendra Amaral.
The other amendments include clarifying anomalies in the charter, such as making the Personnel Board into a professional position and having the town manager present the capital plan to the Town Council instead of it being reversed as currently written, at the request Amaral. The other amendment would be to bring Kittery Port Authority under the umbrella of town authority.
