KITTERY POINT, Maine – Barbara Moulton has been associated with the Kittery Holiday Baskets since its inception in 1951 and has led the informal organization that provides food and gifts for those in need for 40 years. After the gifts are delivered this year, she will step down from that role.
Moulton and her sister Joanne Reams were teenagers when their mother Esther Linscott, the public nurse of Kittery, started the yearly program in 1951. Linscott did home visits, checking on newborn babies, seniors who couldn’t get out and those who couldn’t afford medical care. Moulton, 80, recalls her mother coming home and raiding their refrigerator and pantry to deliver to families who had little food for their children.
