KITTERY, Maine — The new sewer line installed last year is one step closer to being operational.
Superintendent of Sewer Services George Kathios said connection notices to property owners on the roads the sewer lines were installed will be sent out on Thursday. Starting on Monday, those affected property owners will have 90 days to connect to the new sewer line or apply for an extension from the town manager.
The notices were originally intended to go out in May, giving the affected property owners the summer months to get homes and businesses connected to the sewer line. However, after property owners expressed outrage over the initial estimated bill for their share of the new sewer line that averaged $24,000 per property, the council delayed action while directing the interim town manager to work on a solution to lower the cost.
