NH police captain selected as Kittery’s new chief

KITTERY, Maine — A Manchester, N.H. police captain is slated to become Kittery’s new police chief pending a background check and contract negotiations.

Interim Town Manager Carol Granfield announced the conditional offer to Det. Capt. James Soucy at Monday’s Town Council meeting.

Soucy, a 24-year law enforcement veteran, started his career in Maryland in 1989 as a state trooper and flight paramedic, according to his resume. In 1992, he became a patrol officer in Manchester and has remained in the department since, working up the rank structure. While a sergeant, he served as SWAT team leader and assistant SWAT commander. As a lieutenant, he was the patrol shift commander for the state’s most populated city.
