Fort Foster closed on Monday for tree cutting

tree cutting KITTERY, Maine — Fort Foster will be closed on Monday, as it was on Wednesday last week, as the town’s public works department cuts and trims trees to bring electricity to the park’s gate.

“We’re trimming the trees to get power at the gatehouse to improve the security at the gatehouse,” said Norman Albert, commissioner of public works.

The park was closed on Wednesday and was to be closed on Thursday, but the department was not able to secure the bucket truck needed for the job. The work was rescheduled to Monday. Vehicle traffic is already not allowed during the winter months at the park. Pedestrian traffic will also be prohibited on Monday. Trees were cut on the road along with dead tree limbs, Albert said.
