KITTERY, Maine – Almost a year ago, Maine’s Poet Laureate Wesley McNair made a standing-room-only “whistle stop” at the Rice Public Library during the Maine Poetry Express tour. With University of New Hampshire professor and poet Mekeel McBride, McNair and others read poems that left people wanting more.

“It was an extraordinary event, and we wanted to repeat it,” said Rice Public Library Executive Director Lee Perkins. So she and former Portsmouth Poet Laureate Kimberly Cloutier Green created the Rice Pudding Poetry Series.

The first Pudding Poetry event was held last December, with former Maine Poet Laureate Betsy Sholl and community readers Tammi Truax, Merry Craig, Susie Burke, Patrick Healey, Peggo Hodes, Sally Hirshberg, Brad Hirst and D. Allan Kerr. It was well-attended.
