‘Gear Up!’ for RPM Challenge
By Suzanne Laurent
KITTERY, Maine – Karen Marzloff, co-founder of the RPM Challenge, said she’s not a musician.
“I’m an appreciator and an enabler,” she said. “I love the local music scene and fostering connections between musicians.”
For the 11th year, the RPM Challenge encourages musicians to write, produce and submit a complete album within the month of February. And it’s not just a local event. Thanks to the RPM website, www.RPMChallenge.com, the charge has gone global.
“We have one man in Sweden who has participated for 10 years. We have a lot of people in England and the U.K., and even some from Japan,” Marzloff said.
Participants must complete a full-length CD of 10 songs or 35 minutes during the month of February.
In honor of 2016 being the 11th annual RPM Challenge, a T-shirt was designed to commemorate the event. A yellow disc adorns a tomato-red short-sleeved shirt that reads, “This is not a contest. This is a challenge.”
