KITTERY, Maine — Two local natives and lifelong friends are working together to raise $10,000 to benefit Parkinson’s disease research by running in the New York City Marathon.

But before the daunting 26.2-mile run, 2002 Marshwood High School graduates Brittany Adams and Amber Wason hope a local 5K road race they’re organizing helps the cause.

“We’ve wanted to run in the New York City Marathon and do it for a meaning,” said Adams, who lives and works in New York City. “Parkinson’s is a cause that has been near and dear to us.”

The reason for that is Wason’s mother, Debra Duggan, has Parkinson’s.
