KITTERY, Maine — Funding to repair the Wood Island Life Saving Station received a $200,000 boost Monday, as the National Park Service approved the station association’s application.

The announcement came Monday as legislation for a matching $200,000 from the state has moved through the House and Senate, awaiting session action in the appropriations process.

The Maine State Historic Preservation Commission also approved eligibility for the Wood Island station to be considered for the National Register of Historic Places.

“Wood Island will undoubtedly be saved,” said Sam Reid, chairman of the Wood Island Life Saving Station Association. “It was a big deal to get here.”
