KITTERY, Maine — Town businesses and nonprofits are working together to install historical markers throughout town, highlighting the area’s rich history.
The Kittery Historical & Naval Museum, the Kittery Improvement Foundation and town businesses are raising the funds to erect the historical, easel-style markers in different areas in town, the next of which will highlight the history of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will be placed in the Kittery Foreside near Gate 1.
“The idea is to install around town these easel-style panels with photos and text about our (town’s) illustrious history,” said D. Allan Kerr, one of the organizers of the effort. “There’s one (installed) now, about the USS Thresher at Memorial Park next to Town Hall.”
