Kittery police make 2 arrests in heroin crackdown

KITTERY, Maine — A 27-year-old man was charged with heroin possession in one of two arrests on Thursday, police said.
Conrad Allen of Old Post Road was charged with possession of heroin, a Class C felony, and as a fugitive from justice on a warrant from New Hampshire. Allen was transported to the York County Jail. Conrad was in possession of approximately 5 grams of heroin, police said.
Meagan Carter, also age 27 and of Old Post Road, was charged with possession of hypodermic apparatus, a Class D misdemeanor. She is scheduled to appear in York District Court.
“We are taking an aggressive stance on these cases in hopes that we may save someone’s life by getting them into the criminal justice system,” Police Chief Ted Short said. “We have had close to a half dozen overdoses between Kittery and Eliot, and we need to do everything we can within the bounds of the law to change the mindset on the use and abuse of illegal drugs.”
