KITTERY POINT, Maine — The Friends of Fort McClary’s annual Revolutionary War encampment will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, and Sunday, Aug. 10, and it promises to be the largest to date, with new activities and re-enactment units.

There will be cannon firing and militia demonstrations, cooking and craft demonstrations, and visitor interactive games from colonial periods. The events will be ongoing throughout the weekend and each is unique and different. The British (Royal Irish Artillery unit) and American militia will recreate a battle for the occupation of the fort on Saturday and Sunday, which will be an expanded battle from past years.

The event is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. It is free to attend, but there is a state park fee of $3 for adults (Maine residents, $2); over 65, $1 (Maine residents 65 and older, free); children 5 to 11 years old, $1; children under 5, free.

The Friends of Fort McClary is a nonprofit organization and will accept donations at the event. Proceeds are used to preserve and enhance the park’s historical property and culture. The Friends are presently restoring the Rifleman’s House, the only known remaining one in the United States.
