$20,500 in scholarships awarded “all from recycling”

scholarship-icon$20,500 in scholarships were awarded to Kittery Students. The scholarships were awarded after the committee reviewed and scored the applications along with essays and then averaged them together. These scholarships are awarded each year from the money collected at the Kittery Transfer station from recycled cans.

To all the residents to help by tossing their cans at the Transfer Station, this is what you have accomplished.  Keep them coming and we can continue this program.

Recycling Committee offers scholarship to Kittery residents

KITTERY, Maine — The Town Council established a Recycling Committee Scholarship. Funds for the scholarship are accumulated over the years by the Recycling Committee, and up to $1,000 will be awarded annually.

Any town resident who has or will graduate from an accredited high school, G.E.D. program or a home schooling program and who has enrolled in a post-secondary college, university or vocational-technical school, is eligible to apply. In addition to academic achievement and demonstrated financial need, special consideration may be given to applicants who have shown an interest in conservation, the environment or other recycling-related issues and who intends to concentrate their studies in environmental disciplines.

Applicants must write an essay of at least 500 words, relating to the aforementioned fields of interest. Information packets are available at the superintendent’s office, Town Hall and Rice Public Library, and all applications must be received by April 30 at the Kittery Municipal Office, 200 Rogers Road Ext., Kittery, ME 03904.
