Community Alert about drugs

Subject: Important message from Superintendent Hutton
School / Community Concern for the Safety of our Young People
Allyn Hutton, Superintendent of Schools and Theodor Short, Kittery Police Chief have
expressed serious concerns regarding recent events within the Kittery community.
Superintendent Hutton stated, “It has been brought to our attention that a few young
people are using illegal substances, specifically marijuana, that may have been
laced with another substance. As a result, young people who have experimented with
this substance are having severe adverse effects, including seizures requiring medical
attention.”
Chief Short says that the Kittery Police Department is aggressively
investigating the situation and will prosecute individuals to the full extent of the law.
In the meantime, we are reaching out the community members for your help in keeping
everyone safe. At this time we strongly recommend the following:
-Parents, please speak with your children and their friends stressing the dangers of
illegal drug use and the importance of speaking up when others are making poor
choices.
– Young people, please talk with your friends about the need to stay safe and drug-free at
all times and have the courage to say no.
– ALL community members, if you see or witness an individual in distress, call 911
immediately. Do not hesitate because moments can save lives.

Any community member who has information that could assist in this criminal investigation
is urged to contact Detective Steve Hamel of the Kittery Police Department at 439-1638.
